Rasta Phase EP ( Interphase Digital IPHD-005 )

The wait is almost over, Greg Packer’s Rasta Phase EP featuring Assassin (AUS), Kuntri Ranks (UK), Aswon (Jamaica) and Joe Black, is releasing 9th of May, 2011 on Interphase Digital. Get it at all the best digital music sites on the Web including iTunes, Beatport, TrackItDown, HMV, Juno, Amazon and more. Here’s the previews and Mr Packer’s notes on the lot:

01 – Rudeboy (featuring MC Assassin)
Taking over where ‘Sound Kriminal’ left off, reaching the Top Ten in the D&B charts, Perth duo Packer & Assassin return with another monster dancehall ragga workout with chunky drums, hints of wobble bass & a fast paced ragga chat from Mr Assassin. Already in the current selection rotation of the king of jungle Kenny Ken, this is a dead cert for the rewind, the dancehall style breakdowns are enough to get the ladies shaking hips whilst the deadly ‘Doctor P’ style drumstep section slaps your face hard before returning to the original hook….. you’ve been warned!

 

02 – Jah Lite (featuring Kuntri Ranks)
Teaming up with Manchester’s Kuntri Ranks, Greg Packer has put his Drum & Bass touch to an original slice of UK dancehall, with tight drums, catchy chorus hook and ragga chat verses, it has all the ingredients to set the floor alight and keep the heads nodding to the bassline. The tune is saturated with ragga dancehall riddims and random horn blasts & fx that you’d expect to hear in any dancehall tune. DJ support already includes world stagers Benny Page & Big Bud

 

03 – Dancehall Queen VIP mix (featuring Aswon
Originally released on Digital’s ‘Shout Recordings’ back in 2007, the VIP mix followed shortly after but only appeared in the DJ sets of Greg Packer. This was one of the biggest tracks featured on his European tour back in 2008 but now the drop is much heavier than the original mix causing countless rewinds. The breakdown also contains elements of the original dancehall version written by Jamacian/Perth based reggae legend Aswon switching the tempo down to 140bpm before dropping back into the drum & bass chaos, this mix was never scheduled for a release but as the vibe fitted the Rasta Phase EP, it had to drop eventually

 

04 – Rights & Justice (featuring Joe Black)
Another reggae tinged riddim, originally written by Joe Black, has had the greg packer treatment once again making up the 4th track on the Rasta Phase Ep. This one is strictly for the headz! Quite a minimal vibe here but the bassline is what draws you in, the subtle vocal hook also provides a nice vibe but it’s an all around proper head nodder. Little ragga switch ups also make this an interesting but solid tune. This track was written a few years ago but recently started to appear in the sets of Greg packer again and had many trainspotters and facebook messages inquiring about its release… the wait is over, here it is:
